The Celtics Soccer Club began in 2008 with a very simple premise: to give girls the opportunity to play club soccer in a social environment that would extend to each player’s family. The club had one inaugural girls team, the players chose their uniform color and design and the were coached and trained by a parent who came out of retirement, having previously coached travel soccer for several years. The club and families involved firmly believe in the Celtics’ vision and culture which translates into the positive educational development of Celtics players. Each year the Celtics have grown, not by design, but at the request of families in the community who desire a similar experience and quality training. Multiple teams at an age group are given pre-Roman English Celtic tribal names to differentiate the teams, hence such team names as Cornovii, Decantae, Votadini, Coriondi and others. Celtic players are constantly reminded of the club motto ‘Conatu et Constantia’ which is an extension of our culture and, translated from Latin to English, means ‘with effort and determination’. Our training focus is heavily weighted to the fundamentals of soccer, i.e. technique; for instance, foot skills are routinely conducted in practice. In 2011, boys became part of the Celtics Soccer Club. Additionally, we added an academy-type program called ‘Celtics Juniors’ for children younger than U8 who wish to advance their early soccer skills through additional training. We have teams in NISL Platinum to NISL Red divisions and IWSL A to IWSL D divisions. Each player has consistently shown the type of improvement which comes with effort, determination, dedication and solid coaching.
